Urgent action required as take away ban threatens pubs and breweries

Our local pubs and breweries need you to please take a minute to contact your MP TODAY regarding the plan to ban them from selling take away alcohol during the new lockdown. Whatever your views on the pandemic, social distancing and lockdown measures, it makes no apparent sense for pubs and other hospitality outlets to be banned from selling take away alcohol (such as containers of real ale) when no such restriction will apply to supermarkets.

Our pubs are facing a devastating second national lockdown and we need your help. 

We need to make sure pubs and breweries can keep selling beer and cider to take-away during the closure period - and to ensure they get enough financial support to help them survive. 

Unlike the first lockdown, ministers are planning a ban on pubs selling alcohol to take-away during the closure period, depriving them of much needed income, driving people to large supermarkets instead of allowing them to support local businesses and limiting our choice as consumers.

Our pubs and breweries have been struggling for months to recover from the first lockdown and to cope with extra restrictions (introduced without adequate evidence from the government) which have reduced trade and damaged consumer confidence.  

CAMRA have been fighting to make sure the beer and pubs sector gets enough support throughout the winter so that our locals (and the breweries that serve them) survive – but we need to keep up the pressure on MPs and the Government.  

Otherwise we risk seeing thousands of pubs and breweries being forced to close for good.  That’s why we are asking you, once again, to email your local MP. 

Pubs, breweries and cider producers are at the heart of our communities and support millions of jobs. We cannot allow them to go to the wall as a result of this lockdown whilst the large supermarkets reap the benefits.  

Please email your MP today to urge them to support our Save Our Pubs campaign – to allow pubs to sell alcohol to take away and to make sure the whole industry gets the long-term financial support it needs to survive.
