Let's go outside!

Spotted Cow, Bedminster

The pandemic has certainly given 2020 a strange summer, not least for pub goers. At a time of year when (weather permitting) people normally like to make good use of pub gardens, social distancing restrictions have perhaps made these spaces more important than ever before. Some people are certainly still wary about drinking inside/at close quarters with others and so now might be an excellent time to actively seek out some of the many pubs in our branch areas that have a garden/external drinking area. One way to do this is to go to https://whatpub.com and click on the filter option for pub gardens.

To see a list of pub and brewery outlets in the whole of the Bristol & District branch area with gardens/outside areas where information is known about their opening status click HERE

It’s a good idea to read the descriptions for more information and contact the pub before travelling if you want to check their opening hours or are unsure about anything. Bristol & District CAMRA is keen to ensure that we have as much up to date information regarding the status of pubs as possible. Please advise the branch of any new information such as when pubs are reopening, opening hours and any other relevant information. This can be done either updating information on the Whatpub website or by e-mailing whatpub@camrabristol.org.uk

Most of the country pubs across our branch have gardens, many of them large and picturesque and some even with great views (special mention warranted for the New Inn at Blagdon). Perhaps slightly less obvious is that many of our urban/suburban pubs also have gardens and outside drinking areas. So if you want to enjoy the outdoor pub experience but can’t get out to the countryside there are still plenty of options available that can be found by searching on whatpub.com. If you don’t know where to start looking, here are a few suggestions from across the Bristol area:

  • The pubs of King Street (which is currently pedestrianised) Bristol City Centre

  • Spotted Cow, Bedminster (pictured above)

  • Channings, Clifton

  • Cross Hands, Fishponds

  • Westbury Park, Henleaze

  • Wellington, Horfield

  • Nova Scotia, Hotwells

  • Old Bank, Keynsham

  • Cadbury, Montpelier

  • Volunteer Tavern, Old Market Quarter

  • Ostrich Inn, Redcliffe

  • Tobacco Factory, Southville

  • Cottage, Spike Island

  • Masons Arms, Stapleton

  • Wooden Walls (or the Staple Hill Oak if somewhere larger or with longer opening hours is needed) Staple Hill
